Who can benefit from RF Skin Tightening?
Sheerwave RF Skin Tightening is suitable for all clients who can benefit from lifting and firming lax skin and/or refining the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, this effective treatment can also be used as a preventative treatment for skin that is beginning to show signs of aging. Results are said to last up to six months to a couple of years, depending on the age and thickness of skin. Your technician will be able to determine a course of treatments specific to you and your needs.
How does it work?
The Sheerwave hand piece (flat and rounded applicator) is slowly rotated over the target area transmitting radio waves through the upper layers of the skin to the dermis, heating the dermis to between 104°-111°F (40°-44° Celsius) without burning the skin surface. The heat generation causes local contraction of the collagen fibers, ultimately tightening the skin.
How many treatments are recommended?
A course of 6 to 9 treatments is recommended with treatments every 8 days to 4 weeks. After the course of treatments, maintenance treatments are recommended every 12 weeks.
How does it feel?
You will feel a warm sensation which will slowly get warmer. Most clients will find the treatments comfortable and relaxing. Your skin will feel tighter immediately following the treatment, while the effects of your procedure will actually continue to accumulate over the course of months following your treatment.
What should you do before treatment?
You should try to avoid doing anything that will irritate your skin immediately before treatment. This includes sunbathing naturally or artificially (please be aware that artificial tanning, aka sun tan beds, are always frowned upon in our profession). We will not treat anyone who has sun burn, or whom has recently tanned from sun exposure as they would be more likely to suffer pain or damage from the addition of heat to the already damaged skin. Already established tans are fine. Any other personal skin sensitivities should be taken into consideration, and shared with your skin care professional.
What are the side-effects?
Some people experience mild redness immediately following the treatments (similar to a sunburn look), but this usually disappears quickly after a few hours or a few days or maximizing. In the vast majority of cases, you can return to work and normal activities immediately after treatment.
Contraindication for Radiofrequency Skin Tightening
• Those having skin diseases or infections in the area to be treated.
• Women whom are pregnant. Although there is no evidence that this treatment is harmful for pregnant women, you would generally be advised to wait until after you have given birth.
• Individuals with electrical devices (e.g., pacemakers), metal implants in the area to be treated (e.g., artificial metal hip joints, heart valves or dental plates), cannot be treated due to the potential danger posed by current flowing through the body and its potential interaction with said devices.
